Well, we are certaintly in for an interesting ride. We now have a socialist majority in the Senate and Obama, who is communist, in the White House.
My mother in law called me last night rejoicing.
I, of course, don’t think Obama will keep any of his promises. He couldn’t even manage that all the way through his campaign! Many of his strongest early supporters voted for McCain because of that.
I will never be socialist. The government cannot help people nearly as effectivly as private charity.
Churches like the Mormon’s charity system and the Salvation Army help more people in more real ways than the government does and with less abuse of the system.
Here are a few examples I personally know about.
One lady, who lived across from my mother, kept getting pregnant on purpose just so that she could stay on welfare (this is a common one). She ended up with 7 or 8 kids. There were so many I stopped counting. And she lived in a house that cost $1,000 a month, which at that time was above the average rent in the area.
She was playing the system.
There are many of what I call “proffessional” beggers in Salt Lake and in Las Vegas. There have been specials on them on TV. These beggars make themselves look down and out, beg all day, and then go home to their mansions! Literally. No lie. They let the TV crews follow them home and put this all on the news.
And these beggers DO NOT pay taxes. (So who’s going to spread their wealth?)
They are down right pushy here. I hear them talking in the parking lots of the gas stations comparing notes on which areas they got the most from. They trade zones so they don’t get recognized too often, etc. They have it all planned out just like a regular business.
One was begging for money for food at the IN and Out, and when I gave him the Chicken Nuggets from my daughters happy meal that she was done with, HE WAS MAD! I mean really, if it’s really for food, he would have been happy.
My thought is, if they are going to put that much time and effort into it, why don’t they build a legitimate business?
There have only been a few people asking for money here that really needed it, and I helped them out right away.
There was a time when my husband and I were the ones in dire straights, and we needed help. We used the WIC program, which pissed me off.
They will outright pay for your formula and if you are feeding a baby on that alone, it takes one and a half can’s, aproxomatly, of formula a week. Each can costs $11. So it’s $66 to 70 a month for formula, which they pay for you.
If you are nursing a baby it is cheaper for them of course, so they give you a reward. Guess what it was.
A little one ounce bottle of body lotion, and one more of cream. The lady who handed it to me was actually EMBARASED that she didn’t have a better “reward.” Ya, a more food would have been better.
And I don’t remember if they help with diapers. We used cloth because it was less money.
So since we weren’t making it on that, our income was $400 a month and our rent alone was $475, we thought we would go and try to get food stamps.
So we went in. What we found out was VERY disturbing.
My husbands ex wife WAS ON FOOD STAMPS! Now you’re probably going, big deal, but let me lay it out for you…
She was making about $15 and hour, which is decent wages by regular people’s standards.
She lived in a house her parents rented out, and had emotionally blackmailed her parents into letting her NOT PAY RENT by threatening to not let them see their grandson if they did make her pay.
And she was getting $300 a month in Child support, usually, from us which of course we couldn’t pay at that time (is now caught up and raised to about $500 now).
She bought Play Stations for her son and he had his own TV in his room, etc.
And she was on FOOD STAMPS!
And get this, she was still claiming there that my husband was her husband. I’m not sure if she said that he was out of work and that’s how she got the food stamps or what, but it was disturbing.
Oh, and you can still keep your cable TV and get food stamps/be on welfare.
We sure didn’t have cable, because eating was a bit more important to us than watching some dumb show. We still don’t have cable, and probably never will.
We finally got sick of the crap we were seeing in the government programs, and we went to a private charity and got all the help we needed! Plus they asked us to put back service hours into their system to help repay some of what they were helping us with.
We gladly agreed! What an HONEST, Straighforward system. And it was set up so that it was HARD for anyone to abuse it! YAY!!@!!!!! This is how is should be.
Then there is my neighbor, this woman is capable and has had jobs before, but is now on welfare and social securty. Her husband and child are handicapped, and I agree that she ought to be on a lot of the programs she is on. Schip, Medicade, Social Security, Housing programs, etc.
But the killer is, SHE GAMBLES! She goes to the casino every day. She told me herself that she gambles at least $100 a week away!
And whenever they come over here her daughter is always asking for food. She is a HUNGRY, growing kid. And she doesn’t get enough food at home. (Of course I feed her.)
The reason is that her mother is throwing $100 a week out the door. That is my tax money. I could just drive by the casino and drop off the check to them and save the time and hassle of the circitous route it takes now!
$100 a week can buy a HELL OF A LOT of groceries. Especially if you buy bulk items like rice, beans, potatoes, etc. But all they buy are tv dinners.
Plus they have personal assets in value of over $500,000. The dad has some guitars that his father gave him that are now VERY valuable. One alone is worth the $500,000 plus he has two more worth $10,000 and $25,000 approximatly. Those assets are probably the only thing that their daughter will be able to live off of when social security fails.
So when Obama starts saying spread the wealth, I start to feel a bit bitter about it. Why should my tax dollars go to such an INEFFECTIVE system? One that is so easy to abuse?
I actually donate 10% of my income to private charities. I donate to very important ones, like the Anasazi program to help kids who are involved in drugs etc, find themselves again and gain a new purpose in life.
I donate to a woman in Africa who helps children who are abandoned by parents dying of AIDS.
And I donate to those private charities that helped us so well when we were struggling.
I “spread the wealth” all on my own and do it to places that make a bigger diffference than any government program does.
I lot of wealthy people do, and a lot of middle income people do, and I DO.
This country is soon to spiral out of control. We are going to have more social programs than ever before in the history of our country, and it’s not going to help the economy at all. It’s not even going to help the people it’s supposed to help as much as Obama is going to say it does.
He’s not a Savior. It’s not his or the governments job to save us.
WE are here to take care of ourselves and take care of those in our communities.
And just like Davy Crockett said when he was in the Senate, Let’s take that money out of the politicians own pockets and see how much they REALLY want to give. (His fellow senators wanted to give taxpayer money to a widow. Davey told them to give their own, and they didn’t.)
When it’s someone else’s money they aren’t so careful with it, but when it’s their own I bet they would look at things a bit differently.
I actually donate a higher percent than my rich mother in law who is so excited about “spreading the wealth.” Why is she excited about getting taxed now instead of just donating more before when she wasn’t going to be forced to by a government entity? I’m not sure…
Again, it’s our job to take care of each other. And private charities, and non-profit charities do a far better job than the government does.
I know from personal experience.
